Oya - Rise of the Orishas - posterWe are always looking for Black Superhero content from the motherland. With much anticipation we have been following word of this project and more than a little time has passed. It had appeared that crowd funding attempts had failed but it is now clear that the project is alive and well with a short film to show for it. Here is the original synopsis:

“Oya: Rise of the Orisha focuses on a young woman named Adesuwa who has the unique ability to transform into the fearsome warrior goddess, Oya, the Orisha of change. When she changes, she gains amazing abilities. We follow Adesuwa as she goes on a head-stomping mission to keep the doorway between the Orisha and humanity closed. Be prepared for an action packed , mystical adventure as we explore the world of the Orisha.”

“Nosa Igbinedion is the writer/director of the “first African superhero movie”, Oya Rise of the Orisa. The short film was an amazing success, gaining a massive audience online and showing at festivals in UK, Nigeria, Brazil and the US. It also gained Nosa a prestigious Screen Nation 2015 award for Rising Talent. He is currently developing a Feature film and comic book series for Oya: Rise of the Orisa.”
